Update from the incubator.
August 25th, 2005 by Jim Clark
The kids are now officially 1 week old and doing fine.
She is weighing in at 3 pounds, 8 ounces and he is gaining a little weight at 3 pounds, 5 ounces. They’re little, but so far they seem to be healthy. (Please take a moment to knock on the nearest piece of wood.)
Friends and family have been asking for updates. I haven’t posted much because there’s not much to post. They sleep, poop, cry, eat, and then begin again. I could write about it in vivid detail but it sure wouldn’t be Pulitzer material.
They’re already very different from each other. He eats like I do–as much as he can, as fast as he can. She eats just like her mother does, taking forever to finish the meal and leaving just a little bit left over. He seems easy-going and hardly cries at all, while she has no qualms about letting everyone know the instant she is displeased. Their demeanor may change as they get bigger, but for now it’s really interesting to get to know their distinct personalities.
It’s really rough having to wait so long to take them home from the hospital. It’s agonizing to get in the car and see the infant seats in the back, or to walk past their room in the house only to see empty cribs. The next few weeks are going to go by really slowly for us.
I suppose we should take this opportunity to sleep while we can.
