My little girl had a CAT scan today.

And no, I don’t mean she examined a kitty. She had a head CT.
The last time the kids had their checkup, the pediatrician became concerned that the size of her head had jumped dramatically. Her head isn’t particularly big — in fact, it’s propotionally fine — but the size increase was outside of what they consider the “normal” amount of growth compared to her last measurements. It may very well be a growth spurt but the doctor wants to rule out the possibility of it being hydrocephalus or something along those lines.
To make matters worse, there was a study a few years back linking rapid head growth to autism. As if we didn’t have enough to worry about. Fortunately she shows no signs of that right now.
We were pretty worried about doing the CT because they had to anaesthetise her to do it. Thankfully, that went fine. They used strawberry-flavored gas to knock her silly and she took it really well. She’s a tough little monkey.
Hopefully we’ll get the results soon. In the meantime, she’s showing off her enormous brain by walking around the house and pointing at everything, demanding that it be identified. I think she’s amassing a large vocabulary and is just waiting for the opportune moment to let it all come spilling out in full sentences.
