But still, here’s a minor update just because:

• Dave and I are pleased that our webcomic The Guns of Shadow Valley got nominated for a Harvey Award.
• My next album will be called Fretting The Small Stuff and will be released this fall, if I can raise enough money from pre-orders to finish it. Here’s how you can get yours.
• I’m working on a children’s book based on the lyrics to a song from my last album.

That’s all for now. I’m not sure when there will be another update here, so if you’re interested in any of this stuff you could always follow what I’m up to over on Twitter or Facebook. I guess I’m just not the type who can be bothered to think of interesting things to say in multiple spots.

• I made a new CD of kid-friendly ukulele rock!
• One of my songs was included on a great CD for charity.
• I wrote a Christmas song and made a video for it.
• I wear reading glasses now, which my family says makes me look like Santa.
• Also, apparently, my family tells me I’m too grumpy to be Santa so I must be Bizarro Santa.
• I recently got a oldnew car.
• I might put out a children’s storybook next year.

A fast moving brush fire has started in the hills above Montecito. I left work at SBCC shortly after it started and the huge flames were very visible from the east campus. It looked really bad.

Apparently downtown traffic is really screwed up, there’s a major power outage, and people are already losing their homes in the blaze. Spot fires on Westmont campus are being reported. Major evacuations are underway.

They’re calling it the “Tea Fire” for some reason. I heard that they think it started above the Tea House structure on Westmont Campus, but that’s really no excuse for giving the fire such a ridiculous name. That’s just lazy… if anything, they should have called it the Tea House Fire. The local media really like to dumb things down.

My 20 year high school reunion is just around the corner. This in and of itself makes me feel old as dirt, but to make matters worse I just discovered the above picture of me which was taken a week before my graduation.

Now, there is something really wrong with this picture. Aside from the fact that I’m wearing a plastic Swatch watch, or that I was sporting a really thin fake gold necklace, or that for some inexplicable reason I have my shirt collar tucked inwards… but OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THE MULLET??

I swear I don’t remember consciously making that hair style choice. It must be a trick of the light or defect in the camera. It has to be. I can’t live with any other answer.

Tonight we saw Colin Hay at a local club. In case you didn’t know, he was the lead singer/songwriter from “Men at Work” in the ’80s and then went on to a splendid solo career of his own.

He’s one of the most enjoyable performers I’ve ever seen or had the honor to meet. Half of his act was just him talking to the crowd, telling charming anecdotes and jokes between songs. Damn if he isn’t one of the funniest guys ever.
