I wrote this tune a couple months ago and played it live a few times, but I didn’t get around to recording it until tonight.
For those who might be interested, the instruments on this are: a koa Flea ukulele, a Terry Mead banjo ukulele (dropped by a full octave to make it sound like a guitar), a Bean Sprout banjo ukulele, my hands and my voice. It was recorded on a Zoom H4 then mixed and mastered in Cubase LE.
Here’s a rehearsal of a song I’m working on as a gift for my lovely wife, Lisa. It’s not about her — it’s just one of my usual “love and loss” songs — but she likes it anyway so at least I’ve done something right.
Happy Valentine’s Day, darlin’.
Here’s a mastered stereo mix MP3 of the above, suitable for iPods and such:
Last night I played a set at ROCKS downtown. It was a great show and I felt both honored and privileged to share the stage with some very talented folks.
I think I did okay for my first real gig. I was a little nervous but I managed to make it through the whole set and I think I covered my couple of mistakes pretty well. The crowd was very generous with their applause and seemed to enjoy the music, which feels really good.
I played five songs, including a couple new songs that nobody’s ever heard before. The newest is a country/western tune called “Hold On To Me” I wrote just a few days ago and I closed my set with it. Someone in the audience was singing harmony along with me which I thought was pretty neat.
Here’s a video of the performance my friend shot from the audience:
And here’s an edited stereo mix MP3 of the song suitable for iPods and such:
Tonight I played an open mic at Muddy Waters, a little coffee-shop-slash-pub downtown. I was surprised at the good turnout considering it’s such a stormy, cold and rainy night. But it was a great time with a lot of talented folks. The folks at Muddy Waters were very hospitable and put on a fun show. If you can make it to this, they do it every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. I highly recommend it.
I told corny jokes and performed three songs, one of which is a new one called “Dance With Me” that I recently finished.
I’m considering playing the open mic at Dargan’s Pub tomorrow night.
Got up super early today. But it's a good thing. I need to get back in the habit of being an early riser, but I just ain't a morning guy. Posted by Jim2008/11/18 over at twitter.com)
