Zaca Fire.

zacafire-sb.jpg

That may look like an atomic bomb cloud, and it sure feels like we’re having a nuclear winter in the middle of summer, but it’s really the fallout from the Zaca Fire in the mountains behind Santa Barbara.

This thing is bananas. It’s been going since July 4 and they don’t expect to have it contained for three more weeks. So far, over 140,000 acres have burned.

Here’s an interesting time-lapse video of a large plume of smoke that was visible all over the city the other day. Apparently, the smoke generated a cloud of ice above it and basically created its own weather system, which made for some stunning visuals. It looked like a small volcano was erupting.

Also, you can click here for some neat pictures from that same day taken by various people from different spots all over town.

Now there’s a huge cloud of ash hanging over the entire city, blotting out the sun and keeping us all very hot and humid. It’s like a big, smoky blanket of fog that rains black dust everywhere. I hope it calms down soon. I feel like I’m living inside a chain smoker’s lung.

UkeCast.

UkeCast

One of my songs (”Something About You”) was recently played on episode 221 of a ukulele podcast called UkeCast. It’s a pretty neat show, so go check it out.

I gave up on this one.

Here’s lyrics to a song I started to write a few weeks ago and then abandoned, at least for now. It just wasn’t working for me. I figure maybe if I post it here I’ll remember to come back and revisit and finish it someday…

Viva la Fiesta!

fiesta.jpg

We had a great time last weekend at the Fiesta (Old Spanish Days) children’s parade downtown. Lisa dressed up the kids in cute costumes and decorated their wagon, and we marched down State Street where ice cream was waiting for everyone at the bottom.

Click here to see more pictures from the parade.

There was so much ash in the air and on the ground from the Zaca fire that at times it seemed like it was lightly snowing.

A couple new ukes.

I bought these ukuleles at San Diego Comic Con last week. They were painted by Scott Morse.

The turtle uke is my favorite new player.
